Jakarta Fashion Week 2011

The Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) is Indonesia’s definitive fashion event, held annually to showcase Indonesian fashion design talents as well as the progress of its burgeoning fashion and creative industry. Our goal is to establish the city of Jakarta as a global fashion hub. Most shows are invites-only, reserved for buyers, local and foreign media, socialites, celebrities and the rest of the fashion-loving public.

This year’s schedule of events promises a more vibrant and diverse line-up of participating designers. Over 150 designers—local, regional and international—have confirmed their attendance at Jakarta Fashion Week 2012. Several high-profile Indonesian designers to show their collections this year include Biyan, Oscar Lawalata, Tex Saverio, Ghea Panggabean, Sebastian Gunawan and Sally Koeswanto.

Jakarta Fashion Week is organized by event management company Azura Activation, which is a subsidiary of Femina Group, a publishing company, which since its founding in 1971 has been active in promoting the Indonesian fashion industry through various editorial initiatives and events.

Jakarta Fashion Week will take place from 12-18 November 2011 at the Pacific Place Shopping Mall in South Jakarta.

fashion week. what will you say when you hear about fahion week ? magnificent stage, fashion collections by multiple designers, branded, glamorous, fashionable item, up to date about the latest style, it's something very majestic.

A fashion week is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, which allows fashion designers, brands or "houses" to display their latest collections in runway shows and buyers to take a look at the latest trends. Most importantly, these events let the industry know what's "in" and what's "out" for the season. The most prominent fashion weeks are held in the four fashion capitals of the world: New York City, London, Milan, and Paris, Some other important fashion weeks in the world are held in Tokyo, São Paulo, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, and in Toronto. [wikipedia]

In the major fashion capitals, fashion weeks are semiannual events. January through April designers showcase their autumn and winter collections and September through November the spring/summer collections are shown. Fashion weeks must be held several months in advance of the season to allow the press and buyers a chance to preview fashion designs for the following season. This is also to allow time for retailers to arrange to purchase or incorporate the designers into their retail marketing. Latest innovations in dress designs are showcased by renowned fashion designers during these fashion weeks, and all these latest collections are covered in magazines like designerzcentral, Vogue, etc.

Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week 2011 has a twist as the iconic Bryant Park locale is history and the mecca of style and fashion has been erected at Lincoln Center

Arguably one of the most anticipated shows of New York Fashion Week, the Rodarte collection does not disappoint with the spring season. Finding inspiration in nature and redwoods of Northern California, Kate and Laura Mulleavy deliver a showing of 1960s tinged garments with a slew of prints and color blocking. It is important to note, however, that this is a departure from previous collections known for their romantic and sometimes dark roots. Nevertheless, it is once again a successful effort from the two sisters.

Julien Macdonald has delivered a dark, gothic, rock and roll collection for his fall/winter 2011 presentation. The element of wintry dark knights was present throughout his collection, from the vampy red lipstick, to the dark greys and black garments in loose, ethereal silhouettes. Lace, leather and knits filled the collection, and was reminiscent of a princess gone bad.

History

In 1943, the first New York Fashion Week was held, with one main purpose: to distract attention from French fashion during World War II, when workers in the fashion industry were unable to travel to Paris. This was an opportune moment - as for centuries designers in America were thought to be reliant on the French for inspiration. The fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert organized an event she called ‘Press Week’ to showcase American designers for fashion journalists, who had previously ignored their works. The Press Week was a success, and, as a result, magazines like Vogue (which were normally filled with French designs) began to feature more and more American innovations. Until 1994, shows were held in different locations, such as hotels, or lofts. Eventually, after a structural accident at a Michael Kors show, the event moved to Bryant Park, behind the New York Public Library, where it remained until 2010, when the shows relocated to Lincoln Center.
However, long before Lambert, there were fashion shows throughout America. In 1903, a New York City shop called Ehrich Brothers put on what is thought to have been the country’s first fashion show to lure middle-class females into the store.By 1910, many big department stores were holding shows of their own. It is likely that American retailers saw that they were called 'fashion parades' in Paris couture salons and decided to use the idea. These parades were an effective way to promote stores, and improved their status. By the 1920s, the fashion show had been used by retailers up and down the country. They were staged, and often held in the shop’s restaurant during lunch or teatime. These shows were usually more theatrical than those of today, heavily based upon a single theme, and accompanied with a narrative commentary. The shows were hugely popular, enticing crowds in their thousands – crowds so large, that stores in New York in the fifties had to obtain a license to have live models.
